Letter to my teenage self

So I read a post by Andrea at My Chihuahua Bites, and I as I was reading I kept thinking , "Yep, sounds familiar." I bet so many of us could identify with the wisdom she wished she could have shared with her teenage self. It's such an emotional time, trying to figure out who and what you are. If only we could have listened to the advice of an experienced 30-something year-old....but then, I'm sure I would have been, "whatever...she doesn't understand!"

Letter to my teenage self:

I know it's been a tough few years dealing with the separation of your parents, your best friend moving away, boys and an asshole of a little brother, but I promise you, it will all get better!
I'm sorry to tell you that your parents will continue to have a tough time for the next several years. I know it feels like you're the only one whose parents are having issues, but you're not. Find it in yourself to talk to someone about it.  That Michelle girl is pretty nice. All the fighting, crying and back and forth takes it toll, but, in the end, they make it. They stick it out.
Cher moving away was devastating. I understand that when you're 10, your best friend is your world. But trying to be one of the "popular" girls is not going to work out. Most of them are nasty and you don't really want to be friends with them. But they will teach you to be true to yourself and one of the most loyal friends anyone could ask for. Amazing friends are just around the corner, some of whom you are still friends with today.
Don't get too worried about having a boyfriend. There are some good guys you will kick yourself for passing on, but you're not ready so it's just as well. Although Chris will be a very special friend so don't feel too bad about letting him slip by. A good guy will come along, maybe not as soon as you would like, but hang in there.
Little brothers are a pain in the ass. Yours will continue to be a pain in the ass (and jaw) for a few more years. I'm not going to lie, you don't become best buds, but your relationship is much improved. You might even enjoy hanging out with him some. Remember this, because you will need to tell it to our daughter one day.
You are beautiful and smart and funny and such a gift to this world! Enjoy your time, it really will go by so fast.
P.S. Don't pull away when Grandaddy hugs you for a long time
P.P.S. Pluck your eyebrows.

Pass the chicken nuggets, please!

Unless you've been living under a Big Mac, you've heard about the hub-bub regarding Chic-fil-A and its owner Truett Cathy. I'm not fully on top of the details, but basically Cathy is a conservative and his personal views are that his businesses should be closed on Sundays for his employee to be able to attend worship services and he does not support gay marriage. Through the power of the media and social networking, many are calling for boycotts of Chic-fil-A and have started rumors, etc. about the restaurant.
My opinion.....I LOOOOVE some Chic-fil-A and will continue to eat there. And this blog post puts it more eloquently than I could ever even try. What do you think?

Happy Birthday Lil' Man!

Perhaps you noticed, I went from the birth of my son to his 1 year birthday! What can I say, it happens...For Sawyer's birthday I chose a fish theme. I googled my way through Nemo cakes, shark invites, Ariel cake toppers and octopus decorations and found inspiration for what I wanted: Just plain ole' fish in shades of orange, aqua and green. Not "under the sea" fish and not "going fishing" fish....just a cute, little fish!
It was a great party (albeit hot as hell!) for my sweet 1-year old and went well. The two things I was really pleased with were the cupcakes and the sercys.
I decided I would do the cupcakes myself. My aunt is a fabulous cake maker, but with the soon-to-be-birth of her second grandchild, I figured I'd let her slide this time. I found a picture online and pretty much copied it. Very easy and super cute! Yes, those are actual Goldfish crackers on top!

I hate goody bags. As parents, do we really need another bag of useless crap and/or candy laying around? No. But as a Southern girl, who doesn't love a sercy (n. a treat, a surprise, a small token)!? I found this tutorial and decided I'd give the goldfish soap a try. Now, I'm a crafty girl, but this was very easy! I got almost all my supplies at Michaels and it took me about 2 hours to make 20. Again, super cute!
Whew! All I gotta say is I think the 6-year old is getting a Build-A-Bear party this year.

Not to mention the boots!

When I was little I wanted to be Wonder Woman, like most little girls my age. I had the Wonder Woman Underoos and wore them regularly. She was beautiful, smart, independent and had that kick-ass invisible jet. That thing could come in handy, for sure. No more security lines and stolen luggage.
And the ability to change with a whirl of your arms would also come in very handy when I normally don't even have time to dry my hair.
Until the position of Amazon goddess becomes available I'll settle for my duties as a wife and mom. A little less exciting, but still very important to this household. In between my domestic drama, I'll try this blog thing again.

It's a boy!

Just in case you maybe missed me and wondered what I've been up to.... I had a baby boy earlier this month! We're doing good - just consumed by life with a newborn!
