What did you do this week?

We had a pretty good weekend, but it was so dang humid. I was sweatin' like the contestants on Biggest Loser! Yeah, yeah, I know. It's summer in the south, but really, I've gone swimming before and not gotten as wet!
Anyhoo- We had a neighborhood cook-out on Saturday. Our friend Harper went with us. Afterwards, the girls and I came home and they partied like rock stars - or rather princesses. They pulled out every dress, bracelet, tiara, shoe, gown, necklace, purse, hair bow they could reach. What they didn't put on, they packed to take with them to the "royal ball".
Sunday I hosted a baby shower for my cousin. Well, really I was co-host but I got kinda screwed in that deal so I did/paid for most of the stuff. That's OK though. Sometimes it's just easier that way. It went well.
I'm really excited about this week, though. We (me and Savannah) are going to visit some friends who live out of town. It's always good to catch up, plus our girls can play with each other! Next it's July 4th and that means Peach Festival. Yes, you gotta love a good festival! Parade, fireworks, BBQ, beauty pageant, the whole works. Throw in a few cook-outs and maybe a boat ride and there's our week!

Brain freeze!

We were in the mountains and the girls were eating chocolate ice cream. Since I am tired of "Spray n Wash"ing all her stuff only to still have stains, I decided to take her shirt off. Then the ice cream got smeared all around and she had such a goofy smile!

Hmm...seems being naked is a theme this week.

I am crossing a few items off my summer to-do list today.
A bunch of us went out Saturday to a boat club, so of course we took my cousin's boat there. It was beautiful out on the lake and Savannah loved it! Most of the ride she sat right up at the front of the bow, hanging on tight, ponytails flying in the wind behind her. I thought maybe she was scared, but she was grinning the whole time! Even though it wasn't officially on my list, I also wanted to go to the zoo and that's what we did Monday. Just me and Savannah. We checked out the bears, giraffes, elephants and penguins, among others and even hit the merry-go-round. It really wasn't that hot, but the humidity kicked our butts so we were outta there by 11:30. Today was her first haircut. I was a little worried she'd freak out, but she was perfect! She didn't move the whole time! I think she really liked seeing herself in that big mirror. Priss...You really can't tell she had one, but I just wanted a little trim for the first haircut. We can go shorter next time. Currently working on #8, 7, 5, and 2. Keep you posted...

Steve got a book like this for Christmas- wacky signs and poor use of grammar from all over the world. I would crack up so much I only let myself read a few pages a day!

Wordless Wednesday

Terrible Two's? You betcha!

So it's been a week off of work and we have been busy! Tuesday, I had drinks with my pal Cupcake, Wednesday we signed the contract for our house, Thursday we went to the outdoor concert (previous post), Friday we left for the mountians, Saturday we went to a fun festival in the mountains, Sunday was Father's Day and the start of VBS, Monday was the Marionette Theatre and VBS, and today has been school for Savannah and piddly stuff for me. Whew!

Speaking of that *precious* 2 year old...What in the world do some of you mommies do?!? Really, I love her to death and she is so cute and funny sometimes but I really would love to wrap her up in duct tape sometimes and suspend her from the ceiling!
She refuses to do anything I say. I could tell her to watch Dora non-stop and eat a bowl of candy and she would stand their and smirk at me or she would say, "inaminute." Putting on clothes or shoes requires the patience of a saint and last time I checked, I wasn't one. She's been known to hit me for any reason or no reason at all. Yesterday she hurled the remore at my temple and it hurt so much I cried! Lately she's been whiny and prone to crying for no real reason. For example, she wanted to go outside. We went outside. She wandered around for about 2 minutes and then whined she wanted to go inside. Oh- and I haven't even mentioned that she doesn't like to nap anymore. I try to put her down, but she'll usually come out of her room about 6 times in 20 minutes. Then I either A)give up and let her out B) really insist she stay in her room and she spends the next 30 minutes destroying it C) drive her around in which she's asleep 2 miles down the road or D)insist that she stays in her room but she still comes out every 5 minutes which does nothing but exhaust me and waste the next half hour. And I do dicipline her. It varies between counting to 3, spanking her legs and occasionally time-out. Anybody have some advice? Support? Margaritas?

On the positive side: she can be very polite saying "please" and "thank you", she's gotten better about using the potty and isn't a total Daddy's girl... all the time.

I got a fever for some cowbell!

We went out last night with some friends and we had a FABULOUS time! In the downtown area, they had a Thursday evening concert series and it wrapped up last night. A band we know, Root Doctors, was playing. I actually used to work with one of the horn players.
It was outside in a parking lot, super warm and sunny, beer from a beer truck and free admission. Everyone was dressed all summery and we got an occasional breeze. The beer was going down good and we all were having a good time. So we eventually work our way up towards the stage and started to get our groove on! We took some random pics of our fellow "dancers" for fun (I don't have them now, will have to post later). We saw Vanilla Ice, Elvira, our friends' dad, a she-man and a retired Solid Gold dancer...not really, but they were in our minds. Towards the end of the show I walked up to the lead singer, put my hand out and Ta-da! I was suddenly their back-up dancer! I even got handed the cowbell, so I was also back-up percussionist! So much fun!
After all that movin' and groovin' and sweatin', we headed to Mellow Mushroom for nurishment, but nobody wanted to wait on us except the bartender. That was OK. We got our food and it was good!

House Update

We met with the builder Wednesday, signed a contract and we have house plans in hand! Whoo-hoo! Contractually, they have a year to finish it, but probably sometime between Christmas and Spring Break we would move in. I'm so excited to finally be at the point.
On the other hand...looks like we will have to put in some elaborate, expensive drainage system b/c our property isn't fit for a regular well and septic system (don't have city water). Oh well.

10 on Tuesday: summer to-do list

Today is my first official day of not working! Yep, off for the summer, for about a month and a half, anyway.
Already today I've scrapbooked all of last summer! Before you become too amazed, I sorta cheated. I love to scrap but just don't have time anymore. What I've done for several things is to do a whole scrapbook online. For example, I did an entire book for Christmas and for our trip to Hawaii. Wal-geens, Wal-mart and Snapfish offer pretty much the same service. You download your pics and you pick and choose your backgrounds and layouts from about 2 dozen choices. My favorite is a service called Picaboo . You download the program for free and upload your pics. You can choose from TONS of backgrounds or scan your own. Then viola! You have an instant 20 page scrapbook. Costs around $20 (plus shipping) and it's way more time efficient than doing it by hand. Not as creative, but it counts, damn it!

10. Get Savannah a haircut. She hasn't had one yet.
9. Walk across the dam at the lake.
8. Try to make a lot of decisions about the house so I don't have to do that once school starts back.

6. Scrapbook our Disney trip and anything else, If I possibly can.
5. Get Savannah 100% potty-trained! I'm tired of giving all my hard-earned $ to Pull-Ups...
4. Go to the beach for a mini-vacation.
3. Take Savannah to the dentist. She hasn't been yet.
2. Have at least one night out on the town with the girls (no diapers or sippy cups allowed)
1. Go out on the lake in the boat. Even though I grew up on the lake, we hardly do this anymore. Of course with the price of gas, one trip on the water will suffice. (2x)

I'll be referring to this list regualarly and cross them out as I go. Here's to a great summer!

What the...? Men, schmen

"What's this?" you ask. Really rotten bananas? Savannah got a hold of a marker? Nope. They're burnt. How do you get burnt bananas? You leave them on top of the toaster oven while you cook something. "That's silly," you say. Yep. It's an obvious mistake, I think. But my dear husband has done it not once, but twice in the same week. "So move the fruit to a different location," you say. It's on the toaster oven to begin with because if I put it away, Steve says he can't see it and therefore won't eat it. Well, you won't eat it extra crispy either. This from my husband, who, if you didn't know, has a Ph.D. in engineering. WTF?!
As you know, we just got back from Florida, but he had to go out of town for work again this week. I was supposed to go with him on this trip but it didn't work out. That was fine. Well, then I had the opportunity to go visit some friends out of town this weekend. He would get in Saturday a.m. when I would plan to leave."No", Steve says, "I get in town on the red-eye and I need to be left alone so I can sleep for a few hours." OK then, I'll take Savannah with me. "Oh no," he says, "I haven't seen her all week and I want to spend some time with her." Excuse me, you just said you would be sleeping most of the day?!??!
THEN, he calls me tonight. He says he may not get in until 5:30 tomorrow. Not a surprise b/c he gets flights changed/ cancelled on him all the time. Oh, actually, the guys from work want him to go out tonight and take a later flight home. I politley told him that if he has a choice, I'd like him to come home in the morning as planned, especially since Savannah has been very whiny for him all week and oh, yeah, she had a fever of 103 this evening.
WTF?!?! men......

Disney Recap

I'm baaack! So the trip to Florida was good. We stayed at the Contemporary Resort in Disney World. It was the 3 of us and my parents. They haven't been on a vacation like that since I was probably in middle school. Anyway, We visited Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney and Sea World. The weather was perfect and the crowds weren't too bad. But that is perhaps due to my #1 tip: Get there when the gates open, leave after lunch for a nap and then go back that evening.

Really, we did that almost everyday! At MK, we were on our 5th ride by 9:45! (gate opened at 9:00)And Savannah hung in there like a real trooper. She had a lot of fun and got to meet Mickey, Minnie and others. We did a character breakfast one day. That's where they come visit you at your table as you eat. Pricey, but good.

I think her favorite part were the roller coasters (Barnstormer at MK and Shamu at SW). She would have gone on the great big ones if she could.

When we weren't at a park, we were hanging out by the pool. Savannah loved to jump in over and over. Lucky for her, Papa didn't seem to mind. She was also swimming...with a life jacket on.
We were so exhausted when we got home Friday night. Overall, we had a great time.
